Digital transformation continues to create business opportunities and enables startups and established companies to become more efficient through social media, mobile, analytics, and cloud computing. By successfully implementing digital technologies, traditional companies are able to tap into innovative business models, increase growth, improve customer experiences, and reduce costs.
Many established companies create incubator programs to connect with startup leaders and learn from their digital solutions. In Berlin, Axel Springer launched Plug and Play, Deutsche Telekom the hub:raum, Lufthansa the Innovation Hub, and Microsoft the BizSpark. This is where founders and leaders of international companies meet to exchange idea and collaborate. It is this exchange of thoughts between start-ups and grown-ups that fosters creativity and inspiration.
After I researched what skills could be useful for helping companies through their digital transformation requires, I have listed the following certifications and courses.
1. Google AdWords and Google Analytics Certification
Want to be approached by recruiters on LinkedIn? My brother currently works as a recruiter and according to him, having Google AdWords and Analytics on LinkedIn increases the chance for receiving marketing-related opportunities.
Which certificate you should take depends on what you plan to do with it. You could take both. They are free, not very difficult, and just take enough preparation time to pass. Each certificate requires to read through a 400-page syllabus.
The following Digital Marketing course helps to prepare for the Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC) and is designed to educate students and professors in the area of Digital Marketing.
2. HubSpot Certifications
In 2012, when I was in New Zealand, I worked in a digital marketing agency. HubSpot contributed to our growth as it was and still is a pioneer for everything related to internet marketing. Check out their Inbound and Email Marketing Certifications.
3. Coursera Course on Digital Marketing
In the past years, I have taken several courses on Coursera and highly recommend their MOOCs. For this article, I researched the most exciting courses related to digital transformation. You can take extended specialisations or single courses, depending on your available time. I have also listed courses on leadership for enhancing people skills, which seem important to me when working in marketing teams.
4. The Digital Garage
Google offers their Digital Garage, a collection of online course to help learn more about digital marketing.
Udemy, differently from Coursera, offers single tutors the ability to share their industry experience and become an industry expert. After researching their platform, I found a few interesting courses about digital marketing and general business.
Furthermore, if you ever plan to take a PMI PMP certification exam to validate your project management skills (absolutely necessary when working in digital marketing as a team leader), take the following course where you are able to earn the 35 contact hours required for the PMP exam application.
6. University of Oxford
Digital transformation requires a grand understanding on various tools, however, behind each computer screen is a human being. Understanding key performance indicators (KPIs) such as CPM, CPC, CTR, and CPA really means to understand human behaviour. Therefore, to improve these skills, take an introduction course on psychology covering biological, psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, and social theories. I highly recommend the following psychology course from the University of Oxford.
7. Miscellaneous Courses on Social Media
For deeper insights into social marketing platforms, check out the following courses. Noteworthy, to be successful in the digital world, an integrated channel strategy is required: one that is flexible enough to evolve with technology trends and fits to your buyer persona.
